Hi! My name is Kevin Zhang.
I like math very much, and have been learning it for most of my life. I'm interested in learning more about machine learning, and I'm currently working on image segmentation in Yale's Gerstein Lab. In my free time I'm also trying to learn more about frontends and animation, and you'll see that this site has a frontend and some animation. I enjoy lifting, cooking, and I'm trying to get into grappling. I used to enjoy kickboxing, but I've stopped for health reasons.
In high school I played quizbowl, and I was my team's dedicated mythology player. After math, mythology was my favorite thing to learn about, and I could go on for hours, if not days, about gods and heroes and all the stories about them. I'm trying to read more; I haven't continued playing quizbowl in college so there's no impetus for me to pore over all the details of mythology anymore, and instead it's more about the literature that myths came from, as well as later receptions of them. I recently read Madeline Miller's Circe after putting it off for a while, and it reminded me of how it's really something special to see the briefest of references to a lesser-known story or detail and have the oh, that's what the author's talking about lightbulb go off. Reading for leisure is definitely something I want to do more of. I also stopped playing chess a while ago but my favorite openings were Queen's Gambit as white and Caro-Kann as black. I like crunchy green grapes.
